Grist: This Clean Energy Storyteller Puts People First

Congratulations to Solutions Project’s own Sean A. Watkins who was honored as one of the Grist 50 Fixers! Celebrated for his digital storytelling work with clean energy leaders, Sean continues to put solutions front and center online and offline.

Sean joined the Solutions Project in 2016 and has helped build inspiration and momentum for others to push for 100% clean energy in their communities as the 100% campaign‘s Community Manager. Instead of focusing on the technology piece of the clean energy equation, he puts people first.

“I’m a digital storyteller whose focus is the authentic inclusion of marginalized voices and stories,” he says.

As a Grist 50 2017 honoree, Sean finds himself in good company. A number of Solutions Project grantees and partners were among those recognized including Rahwa Ghirmatzion from PUSH Buffalo, Dallas Goldtooth with Indigenous Environmental Network, Tara Houska of Honor the Earth, and Yorman Nuñez with Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative. Solutions Project board and allies from Van Jones to Cameron Russell also played a role in crafting the list of honorees.

At only 27, Sean is an active voice in the movement for climate justice. Prior to joining the Solutions Project, he produced and co-hosted the Climate Voices podcast and transformed the social media presence of GreenFaith’s OurVoices multi-faith climate campaign in the lead up and months following the Paris COP21 climate talks. In 2016, he was featured as one of the “The New Activists” by Interview Magazine and has been recognized as “100 Black LGBTQ Emerging Leaders to Watch” by the National Black Justice Coalition.

Congratulations to all named on this year’s Grist 50. Our world is more sustainable & closer to working for 100% of people because of them.
