In response to a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences criticizing the 100% renewable energy study by Professor Mark Jacobson, Sarah Shanley Hope, the executive director of The Solutions Project, has the following statement:

“We stand by our co-founder Mark Jacobson, and his peer-reviewed research showing that a 100% renewable energy future is possible. Academics debate all the time, and while exact targets or metrics might be subject to disagreement, the importance of deploying more renewable energy is not.

“We hope that the publication of today’s paper does not distract from the real story, which is that cities, states and mainstream companies are working to power themselves with clean, renewable energy. Clean energy already powers Georgetown, Texas and keeps Apple’s data centers running. Clean energy makes sense economically and environmentally – it improves American lives.

“Renewable energy can create safer, cleaner and healthier communities for ourselves and our children right now and that’s why 100% clean energy is our future.”
