We experienced a major loss for climate justice today, with major repercussions for the health, well-being and livelihoods of Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, as well as other marginalized people across our country. Trump’s victory is a profound setback for our collective work on climate, equity, and justice and we are deeply disappointed by its implications for our shared future.
But we’ve been here before, and this is not the time to give up. Despite setbacks and challenges, we will persist. The grassroots organizations, alliances, and frontline community leaders we support will continue their work to build a better future for all of us – creating green jobs, growing community gardens, reducing emissions, advocating for cleaner air, and ensuring that frontline communities of color are at the center of the climate agenda. They understand the stakes, and are building deep local infrastructure for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience that is capable of withstanding the changing waves of national politics. With our support, these grassroots leaders will continue to drive solutions and build power from the ground up.

“This result is a significant setback for climate investment and action, especially for frontline communities of color and those most vulnerable to the climate crisis. Trump’s track record on climate is egregious: from withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and rolling back more than 100 critical environmental policies to expanding fossil fuel production and weakening fuel efficiency standards. His rhetoric—including calling climate change a ‘hoax’—and actions have condoned and fueled climate denial, division, and racism. When our elected officials pull away from climate and from justice, we lean in, especially for the climate solutions led by those most impacted.”
