Millions of voters across the country have made their priorities clear: a new direction and leaders who will take on the rising cost of living. In January, a new Congress will take office with Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate.

After years of rollbacks on environmental protections and climate action, including pulling out of the Paris Agreement and rescinding the EPA Endangerment Finding, these results create a new opening to defend and advance the progress frontline communities have fought for and all of us deserve.

Frontline communities, including Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, have long led the way on solutions that lower the cost of living and protect health: clean energy and climate resilience investments, environmental protections for clean air and water, curbs on unchecked AI data center development, and good green jobs. With authority over federal spending and oversight, a new Congress can protect public health and restore funding that frontline communities depend on.

Voters demanded leaders who will answer to the people they serve. Affordable clean energy, clean air, and healthy communities are part of that answer. Behind every result are organizers whose work rarely makes the headlines: the conversations at the door, the rides to the polls, the protection of every vote. I see that work, and I know it continues long after election night. Now comes the work of holding newly elected leaders to their commitments on climate and justice.

The communities leading on climate are often the same ones protecting our democratic process. The Solutions Project stands ready to support community partners through any disinformation, challenges, or threats that may follow these results, and will keep mobilizing resources to protect, defend, and expand their leadership and vision.

We invite philanthropy to meet this moment by investing boldly in frontline organizations that are building people power and advancing local climate solutions. These communities have the solutions and are ready to act. We cannot afford to wait any longer.

The momentum created by this election will only translate into lasting change if the leaders closest to the challenges have the resources they need to organize, advocate, and shape the future we all deserve.
