October 8, 2024

Climate Week NYC 2024 brought together leaders from business, government, civil society, and the global community to discuss climate progress and take action. Against the vibrant backdrop of New York City, the week-long event featured panels, dance parties, and art installations—all aimed at advancing solutions to the climate crisis, with a focus on energy, health, policy, and more.

Amidst the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene across six states, which left millions without power and access to water, the urgency to center frontline voices has never been clearer. Bold commitments and transformative action are critical to ensuring an equitable future for all.

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of some of our favorite events from the week:

Climate Justice Festival

As part of Frontline Climate Justice Week, UPROSE, with support from The Solutions Project, Climate Justice Alliance, PUSH Buffalo, Hip Hop Caucus, and NY Renews, hosted the “Climate Justice Lives Here!” community festival in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the People’s Climate March, this event honored the pivotal role of frontline communities in advancing climate justice. Not even the rain could stop the community from dancing, enjoying cultural performances, and participating in art projects.

Grassroots Power: Perspectives on the Impact & Scale of Community-led Solutions

The New School and Climate Justice Alliance held an inspiring conversation about how grassroots-led climate solutions are not only innovative and scalable but essential for the systemic change needed. Watch the full session and hear from Shaheen Hasan, The Solution Project’s Managing Director of Grantmaking & Programs, and other climate leaders.

Realizing the Just Transition

Climate Justice Alliance organized a series of panels and workshops at the People’s Forum. These sessions explored the essential role of public and private capital in driving a just transition. Watch the recordings of the Opening Plenary, What Public Monies Mean for Our Movement panel, and The Just Returns Project panel.
