MacKenzie Scott has announced a transformative gift to The Solutions Project to advance our support for grassroots climate justice movements across the United States. We are grateful for this significant investment that will strengthen our capacity to resource and amplify climate justice solutions led by frontline communities.
MacKenzie Scott’s gift is a powerful affirmation of the success of The Solution’s Project’s model and comes at a pivotal moment for climate justice organizations. The climate crisis continues to escalate, touching every aspect of our lives: health, water, housing, energy, land, and more. Frontline communities are experiencing the compounding effects of extreme weather, risks to democracy, rising costs of living, displacement, and environmental degradation, all while leading the climate justice movement. As federal climate commitments are rolled back and public funding becomes increasingly uncertain, frontline leaders such as our grantee partners are met with growing challenges but with fewer resources to enact innovative, locally responsive solutions.
“This investment comes at a critical moment. The energetic leadership of the grassroots climate justice movement is critical to sustaining a vibrant and healthy democracy and to positioning the United States to prepare for, adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. “As federal climate commitments are rolled back and public funding becomes increasingly uncertain, frontline climate leaders are met with growing challenges but with fewer resources to enact innovative, locally responsive solutions. I hope this is just the beginning of an urgently-needed infusion of investment, inspiring other donors to follow her lead with similar hope, courage, and boldness.”
Gloria Walton, President + CEO of The Solutions Project
This moment is especially significant for movement-accountable intermediaries like The Solutions Project, Hive Fund, and Climate and Clean Energy Equity Fund, who are anchored in justice, equity, and grassroots leadership. As the landscape grows more volatile, our democracy increasingly depends on organizations like ours who are trusted by grassroots movements that play a vital role in resourcing leaders who are excluded from traditional philanthropy.
The Solutions Project will continue to expand our work by providing multi-year grants to grassroots organizations to advance us towards a more equitable and sustainable world. Rooted in our new strategic plan, we are deepening our commitment to community-led power and transformational climate solutions. This gift accelerates progress towards our next $100 million milestone as we double down to ensure that frontline leaders have the flexible resources they need to scale their innovations and build long term resilience.
