PUSH Buffalo

Project Details

Buffalo, New York is at the intersection of three critical challenges: the need for good jobs, affordable housing and the urgency of climate action. People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo)’s groundbreaking Sustainability Workforce Training Center is answering the call, creating pathways for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and disadvantaged communities to access high-quality careers in the green economy. Program participants learn how to build net-zero, green energy homes for their community, and in the process gain meaningful employment and address climate resiliency needs in their community. This innovative facility offers hands-on training in the installation of clean heat technologies, solar energy, and energy efficiency upgrades, directly addressing Buffalo’s aging housing stock while combating climate change. Designed as a net-zero energy building, powered by an on-site solar PV system and geothermal heating/cooling, the center doubles as a live demonstration of renewable technology in action. It not only builds skills but also serves as a beacon of hope for the future, showing how sustainable energy solutions can drive economic and social equity.
