In 2019, The Solutions Project supported 44 frontline organizations with nearly $700,000 in grants and $1 million in in-kind media support in 20 states across the U.S.

Of particular note is the success of our 100% Commitment to Justice where we are primarily supporting people-of-color and women led frontline organizations in the field. Work funded this year included these inspiring examples:

  • Communications and narrative collaboratives in California and Georgia to develop women of color messengers through cultural celebration strategies
  • Passage of landmark climate legislation in New York State
  • Regenerative community development in the Oglala Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota
  • Continued innovation by partners in California on demonstration projects, crucial advocacy for healthy communities at the state level, and Just Transition modeling through implementation of the Transformative Climate Communities program
  • RE-Imagine South strategy development in the Gulf South region
  • Experiential learning networks to develop art, culture, food and clean energy in rural Black Belt counties in Georgia
  • Expansion of the energy district model across rural Iowa through Clean Energy Districts of Iowa
  • Community-driven Just Recovery development through Imaginación Post-María in three communities of Comerío, Carolina and Humacao in Puerto Rico
  • Supporting emerging people of color leadership and organizing working in rural electric cooperatives across the American South
  • And ensuring that environmental justice was part of the safety narrative needed for communities of color most affected by mass criminalization and gun violence in the U.S.

To date, our grantmaking has invested over $4.5 million in frontline innovation and solutions since 2015. The Solutions Project is honored to play a role in supporting our grantee partners. Together, we are advancing a shared vision of 100% clean energy and a transition to a regenerative economy for all.
